Foundation Year in Business & Management
Overview
The Foundation Year in Business & Management is designed for learners who want to strengthen their academic skills and gain a broad introduction to the way organisations operate. It combines study skills with accessible business, finance, marketing and digital content so that learners can make a more confident transition into further or higher-level study.
Learning is practical and supportive. Learners work with business examples, short research tasks, presentations and a final applied project. Teaching and assessment
Teaching should combine workshops, guided study, tutorials, group activity and business-based tasks. Learners should receive formative feedback before each summative assessment.
Recommended assessment includes short written assignments, a presentation, a numeracy or spreadsheet task, reflective work and an applied business project. LSBI should publish the final assessment pattern only after academic approval.
Entry requirements
Applicants should normally be at least 16 and able to benefit from study at this level. LSBI should review prior learning, English-language ability and numeracy through its admissions process.
Where English is not the applicant’s first language, LSBI should state the approved test, score or internal assessment required for entry. Any additional documents or interview requirements should be listed clearly.
Progression and career relevance
Successful completion can prepare learners to apply for a regulated Level 3 diploma, an access or foundation programme, an apprenticeship or another suitable route. Progression is not automatic and depends on the entry requirements of the receiving provider.
The programme also builds transferable skills useful in entry-level administrative, customer-service and business-support settings, although it is not an occupational licence or guarantee of employment.
Award
Learners who meet LSBI’s approved completion requirements receive the proposed LSBI Foundation Certificate in Business and Management. This is an internal, non-regulated award and must not be presented as an Ofqual-regulated Level 3 qualification.
Important information
This programme is preparatory. It does not itself confer regulated credit, UCAS Tariff points, direct entry to a degree or guaranteed progression. LSBI should publish any formal progression agreement separately and identify the participating institution and conditions.
