Level 5 Diploma in Business Management
Overview
The Level 5 Diploma in Business Management develops a more analytical understanding of strategy, people management, marketing, business law, management accounting and enterprise development. Learners consider how managers make choices when information, resources and market conditions are uncertain.
The programme builds on prior Level 4 study. Assignments require learners to interpret evidence, apply concepts to organisations and justify practical recommendations. A dedicated business start-up unit connects opportunity recognition with market validation, resources and implementation.

Teaching and assessment
Learning should include seminars, workshops, applied case studies, financial exercises, market analysis and tutorials. Learners should be encouraged to connect theory with their own workplace or a selected organisation while respecting confidentiality.
Assessment is by coursework. Assignments are internally assessed by the approved centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualification is graded Pass or Fail.
Entry requirements
Applicants should normally hold a relevant Level 4 diploma or an equivalent qualification. OTHM may also permit entry on other appropriate evidence, including mature-applicant experience, where the approved centre is satisfied that the learner can achieve at Level 5.
Learners are normally aged 18 or over and must demonstrate English-language competence appropriate to Level 5 study and assessment.
Progression and career relevance
Successful learners can progress to the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Business Management or another suitable Level 6 programme. A university may consider a Level 5 diploma for final-year or top-up entry, but the university decides whether the qualification, credit profile and subject coverage meet its requirements.
The programme supports development towards management, marketing, operations, people and enterprise roles. Employers set their own requirements, and completion does not guarantee a particular position.
Award
Learners who successfully complete all six units receive the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Business Management, an Ofqual-regulated qualification awarded by OTHM Qualifications.
Important information
This diploma is not a bachelor’s degree. Any claim that it provides direct or automatic entry to the final year of a degree must be supported by a current written progression arrangement or a decision from the receiving university.
